The losing Milan 3D Printer sends Dominic a message.
Wilcox vs 3D Printer
Date: 2012 Materials: Clay, Marzipan
In 2012 I tweeted that ‘I want to race a Rapid Prototype Machine (a 3D Printer that makes objects) to make the same thing’. It was just one of those things you can say quickly on twitter as an ‘off the top of your head’ idea.
It turned out that curator Beatrice Galilee had been made aware of my tweet by a colleague and she then asked me if I would like to make my tweet become reality. She was organising an event called ‘Hacked’ based inside a large department store called La Rinascente during the Milan design week. I competed against a 3D Printer to Make a model of the Duomo cathedral. I made my model from a block of clay. I had never made anything from clay so it was a bit of a challenge to say the least.
After my victory The V&A Museum in London invited me to have a re-match against a UK based 3D printer. See the pictures and videos from both events.
